Bento
Box
The Japanese are the world's greatest gift wrappers. Their
packaging skills are even adapted to "fast food" lunchboxes
purchased in their subways. When you open the handsome
lid you find equally pretty food. Sometimes the lid is
decorated to represent the inside meal (like a crab). Sometimes
it has a famous landmark on the lid. What can you create
for the lid of your Bento carry-out meal?

| Calligraphy Scroll
The Chinese call the box containing the brush,
ink, ink slab and paper the Scholar's Studio. Scrolls
wishing good fortune are found in most homes. You
can practice your calligraphy following the book¹s
instructions. Make a scroll for a special place
in your house.

Hmong
Hat
Since the Viet Nam war the hill people have emigrated
and many have come to America. The Hmong (mahng) make
elaborately embroidered and appliquéd textiles
These caps are worn by the children. There is an elaborate
bright design on top so a flying hungry bird thinks
it sees flowers from up high, not children.
